Traumatic Brain Injury Attorneys in Park City
If You or a Loved One Is Facing Lifelong Disability, You May Be Eligible for Compensation
Almost any type of injury has the potential to heal, from broken bones to torn muscles to lacerations. Doctors and other medical experts can apply therapies to promote cell regrowth or integrate replacement tissue. This is not the case for brain injuries. Injured brain cells are not able to replicate; when one is killed, there is no way for that part of the brain to ever function again. This is one of the reasons a traumatic brain injury, also known as TBI, can have such a devastating effect on an accident victim’s life.
If you or someone you love has suffered from a traumatic brain injury in an accident, you should not pass up your opportunity to file for compensation. Medical bills add up quickly, not to mention the other life adjustments a TBI can require. You and your family deserve full support during this time.
Our caring team at Dodd & Kuendig can help you understand your legal options and pursue the compensation you need. Call our Park City TBI attorneys at (435) 296-7434 if you think you might have a case.
What are the Common Causes of Traumatic Brain Injuries?
The protection offered by the skull can only do so much when someone suffers blunt force trauma to the head. A hard impact, penetration by another object, or even a forceful collision with the inside of the skull can cause irreparable damage to brain cells. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), TBI is most often caused by:
- Falls
- Car, truck, and pedestrian accidents
- Collision with another object
- Attack or assault
However, other rough activities ranging from sports to military service can cause traumatic brain injuries as well. For TBI victims, immediate treatment is necessary—but even a world-class response may not be able to prevent permanent brain damage. The amount and type of harm a patient will suffer from a brain injury are nearly impossible to predict. It is possible a patient might need extended treatment or even lifelong assistance depending on the severity of the wound.
Types and Severity of TBI
Concussion is by far the most common type of TBI—mild brain damage in this category accounts for nearly 3 in 4 such injuries annually. Despite what many people assume, concussions can and do cause lasting harm. However, they have minor effects compared to other, more serious, types of TBI.
In general, traumatic brain injuries are categorized as follows:
- Mild injuries, including concussions. These wounds result in a brief loss of consciousness (under 30 minutes) and a patient’s CAT and MRI scans may look normal.
- Moderate injuries cause the victim to lose consciousness for more than 30 minutes. Patients are likely to suffer some form of impairment, though therapy may help them recover partial or total function.
- Severe injuries put the victim in a coma and typically result in serious, lasting impairment. Patients are likely to need extended therapy and assistive care.
Because the brain is such a complex organ, there is no way to predict the effects an injury will have, or if they will decrease over time. With therapy, the brain may be able to rewire itself to handle operations once controlled by the now-dead cells. In cases of mild TBI, cells that were only injured may slowly repair themselves, helping the victim feel “normal” again. However, anyone who suffers a TBI will need medical treatment—and that means the party behind their injury should be held responsible for its cost.

Damage to your brain cells can affect anything from your mood and personality to your cognitive capabilities to your physical function. - Difficulty speaking, reading, and writing
- Reduction in attention span and focus
- Slower processing of sensory input
